Heat is what kills diamond bits and cracks tile — but running water down a wall or backsplash to cool the cut is messy or impossible. Mechanic CoolGEL 250 is the answer: a cooling gel you apply directly to the surface before you drill or cut. It stays exactly where you put it, lubricating and cooling the bit, suppressing dust, and preventing the heat buildup that leads to cracked tile and glazed-over diamonds.
Because it needs no running water, it's ideal for wall tile, backsplashes, and any vertical or finished surface where water flow just isn't practical — you get water-cooled results without the water. It extends the life of your bits and blades and keeps the cut cleaner. Use it with a DiStar Rocket diamond core bit when you're drilling dense porcelain and stone on a wall.
Pro tip: Lay down a generous blob right over your mark and re-dip the bit as you go on a deep hole — if the gel stops bubbling and steaming, it's spent, so add more rather than pushing a dry, hot bit through the last of the cut.
