A leveling clip is just a plastic tab until something drives it tight — and that's the wedge's job. Slide a Wedge MD wedge into a clip, push it home, and it applies the pressure that draws two tile edges into the same plane and locks them there while the thinset sets. That squeeze is the difference between a flat floor and a lippage callback.
The whole system is designed to work by hand: an ergonomic push plate lets you apply firm, controlled pressure with your thumb, with no installation tool required. Arched wedge tips slide into the clips smoothly instead of catching and fighting you, and multi-thickness tips make for cleaner joints and easier cleanout. Best of all, the wedges are reusable — pop them off once the mortar cures, clean them, and they're ready for the next job. Only the clips get consumed.
One bag of wedges works with both 1/16" and 1/8" Wedge MD clips, so you're not buying a separate set for each joint size — keep a bag on the truck and restock only the clips. Pair them with Wedge MD clips to complete the system, and reach for RTC Universal Protection Plates when you're leveling polished or delicate-edged tile.
Pro tip: Push the wedge in until the tile faces come flush, not until it won't go any further — you want the tiles level, not the wedge buried. Clean the wedges before the thinset dries on them so they stay smooth and reusable, and keep a few extra on hand; a wedge that walks off into the mud is the one you'll be short at the end of the row.
